About the role
Mercari operates a consumer marketplace connecting buyers and sellers, and its Cross Border team is building a global app for international purchases from Japanese sellers. This engineer will shape and build backend systems, guide architecture across teams, and improve reliability and AI-assisted engineering practices.
What you'll do
- Set technical direction for cross-border backend systems
- Design service boundaries and API contracts across the buying journey
- Build and maintain Go services for a multi-region global platform
- Own reliability, safe rollouts, observability and incident learning
- Unblock complex design work across multiple teams
- Mentor senior engineers and develop technical leaders
